Deadly Attack in North-Eastern Nigeria as Boko Haram Targets Farmers

Attackers believed to be from the Boko Haram Islamist group have carried out a brutal assault in north-eastern Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 people. The incident occurred in Zabarmari village, Borno state, where assailants on motorbikes targeted farmers during the harvest. According to residents, the attackers arrived on Sunday evening, demanding food and money from the farmers. When the farmers resisted, the attackers used knives and machetes to hack them to death.

The victims, mourned by the community, were laid to rest on Monday, with several others still missing. Three survivors are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. This horrifying event has revived haunting memories of a similar attack in November 2020, where suspected Boko Haram militants massacred over 110 rice farmers in the same region.

Reacting to the tragedy, authorities in Borno state have announced that the state police chief has deployed a team of security personnel to investigate the incident and address the security concerns in the area.
