Lagos police investigate Tiwa Savage’s allegations of bullying and threat by Davido

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that it is investigating the petition filed by Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, over alleged bullying and threat to her life by her colleague, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Savage, in the petition dated January 9, 2024, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, accused Davido of uttering disrespectful words in reaction to a post that included herself and the singer’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu’s Instagram story. She claimed that Davido told their mutual connections to warn her to be careful in Lagos because he was going to deal with her.

The singer explained how she expressed disappointment at Davido’s threats and reminded him of how she stood by his family, especially when he lost his son. She, however, said she received calls from mutual connections seeking to know what she did to upset Davido and also questioning her relationship with Sophia.

The petition read in part, “The actions of Mr David Adeleke are unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy and dignity of my person as guaranteed in Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). And are also in contravention of Section 24 (2) (a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, while responding to an inquiry by PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, said investigation had begun into the allegations. He said, “I can confirm to you that we have received the petition and investigation has commenced.”

Davido has not publicly commented on the matter as of the time of filing this report. The two singers are among the most popular and successful artists in the Nigerian music industry, with several awards and accolades to their names. They have also collaborated on some songs in the past, such as “Tanana” and “Park Well”.
